Their ancestors CAME FROM just as the JEWS were re patriated to Israel. A robust melodrama, it included ordinary Jamaican people as central characters: the evil Annie Palmer's black slaves take charge of their fates and mobilize against her to secure their freedom. The Spanish had established the first Caribbean universities within 60 years of their arrival at the end of the 15th century; the British, landing at Plymouth in 1620, had founded Harvard within sixteen years. So generous and guileless were these people that they embraced Columbus and his crew of Spaniards, they provided them with some of the basics for their survival on the Islands, only to be repaid by being mercilessly enslaved and ‘slaughtered’ so that within a few decades not one Arawak was alive.
