I teach both Physical Geology (Geol 1403) and Historical Geology (Geol 1404); however, I do not teach Historical Geology every semester. The greens come from the clay minerals themselves, from pyrite and from iron silicate cements indicating bog-like reducing conditions at the time of deposition. Temple Butte Limestone - This layer averages about 350 million years old and is composed of freshwater limestone in the east and dolomite in the west. It also caps some prominent Piedmont buttes and mesa, including Larkspur Butte (below right).
